René Mathieu

René Mathieu is a Belgian chef who began his career in 1986 at the Restaurant “Le Capucin Gourmand” (Belgium). There he obtained his first Michelin star at the age of 25.
From 2002 to 2005, he was the executive chef of his Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

Since 2005, he has been Executive Chef of the Restaurants of the Château de Bourglinster. His list of awards is impressive and to name a few he was named Chef of the Year in Luxembourg in 2010 and 2021, Best Vegetable Chef in the World in 2021 and 2022. His restaurant has a Michelin star and a score of 18/20 in Gault & Millau.

He is a foodie, poet, herbalist and lover of vegetables. The food that it creates contains a high degree of botanical ingredients and is extremely beautiful.

Cooking remains his escape, his passion, his waking and wonderful dream that never leaves him and always carries him further. Cooking offers him every day an opportunity to develop and share with others.


Mario Willems

Mario Willems is a Belgian entrepreneur who has lived in Luxembourg since 1999. His business management experience has covered many sectors and he sits on the board of several international companies.

His real passion though, has always been cooking as from a very early age.
Working with several great chefs around the world and having spent many years helping out in an artisan bakery made him very skilled in and around a kitchen.

His travels around the world and his scientific curiosity have given him a deep understanding and vast knowledge of the different cuisines and techniques used.

In 2005, he met René Mathieu in the restaurants of the Château de Bourglinster and their friendship was sealed.
After many years of cooking together, they both created My Roots in 2018 to share their knowledge and passions of cooking with others.
